I've been in search of the best brew from a home coffeemaker for some time. I'm afraid being in the age of Starbuck has irreparably spoiled my taste buds to be dissatisfied with the output of the vast majority of home machines. Even the high end Cuisinart that grinds the beans (a chore to clean each time btw) just didn't taste spectacular. This machine however makes amazing coffee, very smooth, virtually no bitterness, and as strong as you want to make it. The secret is the machine completely vaporizes the water to steam where it travels to the upper chamber to drip through the coffee and into the carafe. There are a number of trade-offs however, as there usually are when dealing with steam: 1) you can't stop the coffee making process midway to fill up (as in DANGEROUS you might get burned by steam if flip open the lever prematurely) 2) be careful to not flip open the top lever too fast righ after brewing, as there's still some steam in there, my wife got a little burn this way 3) it's definitely a 2 handed process to open the thing after brewing, you have to hold down the button with your left hand while carefully lifting the lever with the right hand, then slowly lift up the button, to avoid some steam coming out (there's a warning on top). 4) Also, be sure the carafe handle is at a 90 degree angle to the top, if it's out of place the holes won't line up and the coffee won't brew.

Unlike other reviewers, I haven't found you can brew with less coffee...unless you like weaker coffee. And they don't have a gold filter with this model, so it's a bit less green according to some people (that's bogus I say--don't you wonder what happens to all those gold filters at the end of their life, plus paper filters and coffee for that matter are biodegradable, and these filters are small), but then again you don't get all that silt in the bottom of your cup like with the gold filters. Also you have to order the filters, though they're pretty cheap (see [...], $17 for a box of 300, search for F15C02-3PK). Finally, it shares a common weakness with most coffee makers with a carafe and heating element: the longer it sits the more stale it gets.

But the amazing coffee it makes (when freshly brewed) makes it worth the hassle, at least to me.

yummy coffee @ home

i've had this beauty for about a month. it makes great coffee. it's worth the extra couple of minutes to brew. i do wish the mid-brew crema wouldn't disappear. i did a ton research before investing in a coffeemaker...i was almost sure not one was really worth the $ until i came across this lovely, simple machine. i did buy this from amazon and can i say how much i love my prime membership.
Worth the little extra effort

Anyone who uses an espresso stovetop coffee maker already knows the steps to brewing great coffee. The Krups Moka coffeemaker is based on similar principles and is a great way to great coffee. Patience is rewarded with smooth, rich coffee; it will take 5 - 10 minutes to brew and there is no way to pour a quick cup midway through the brewing process. Take care of the coffee carafe, it's expense to replace. The Krups Moka doesn't have a warming plate so if you want a steaming hot second cup, buy a thermal carafe to store the coffee after brewing. Enjoy!

Just makes the best coffee

I've had my Moka-Brew for over a year, now.
OK, for a manual brewer it's expensive, and its hard to find the disc filters. I just cut basket filters to fit. If you pack down the grounds before you brew, you don't have the grounds blowing up over the filter and into your coffee.
I'm picky about my coffee. This thing just makes the best coffee of any brewer I've owned. It doesn't take up much counter space, and people love to watch it brew.
If you buy it to make the best possible cup of coffee, you'll be happy with it. I am.
